Hi, before the update, i have this problem:

how to i can fix this?

Install and update your actual Steam client on that PC. 2 of my friends had this error and doing that solved it for them.

I know it's your server, but updating Steam client itself solved the problem for 2 of my friends.

Edit: If you do a Google search of that error people suggest the same thing.

are you sure of this?


i just installed this stuff on my old desktop to run a server.....and steam the same day...so i think steam is already updated :s


however trying to see if there even is an update for steam clinet :s

however i noticed the top bit is a bit different.....

do i have a bigger problem? D:


... i tired opening the STEAM - SELF UPDATER ....it checks for updates.....and then does NOTHING
its been doing that for 4 hours now....is there another way to update it? i just installed it...so why does it need a update again?

Honestly, i'm just going by from what i've seen here. The SRCDS server was installed on his laptop for a good few weeks before this update, then it went into LAN mode and he couldn't fix it. After some messing about we downloaded and installed Steam to his laptop which then updated itself after installing and then the error vanished. I then tried this method with my friend just the other day, Steam updated and behold the error was gone.

I'm not 100% sure that's the problem solver but for that method to fix the error twice tells me it's something to do with it. As for why your updater hangs, I have no idea.

My usual debugging step is to run HLDSUpdateTool (or steam on Linux/Mac) with the -verify_all switch to make sure all my files are up to date:

Windows:

HLDSUpdateTool -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir . -retry -verify_all

Linux/Mac:

./steam -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir . -retry -verify_all

i have all but the -retry part like so


HLDSUpdateTool -command update -game tf -dir . -verify_all


I ran that in a batch file right before i tired the server....so it didnt work :c

i also tried to update steam client though the normal steam options but it started looking for therm....yet never found it


also i just installed steam on that desktop so why do i need an update =o



oh 1 other thing....it said it didnt recognize parameter 'retry' or '-' :s


anyone have an idea why it says FAILED TO LOAD STEAM SERVICE and SERVICESTART: FAIL TO LOAD

.....well the lan warning has dispeared after i updated it 2 time =o

I'm having the same problem today and have this problem twice in last days, who i fixed doing a complete Format C: in the machine, but this cost money because is a dedicated on a IDC, anyone can help me to fix?

EDIT: One more thing, is anything related to the machine because all sv is doing this error and i tested into a default downloaded instalation without any change or intervension and the error persist...
