This is so not true 2 Weeks ago I saw a website where some guys were working on a project for l4d1 to show all 12 or 16 ingame players. I donīt remember the website unfortunately. All I know is that the put the health bar and pipe info in the bottom from the screen. So it is possible but I have no clue what the progress looks like and if this is ever gonna be working in l4d2.

It's probably a limitation of the client HUD, I wouldn't be surprised if it only loops for showing HUDs for 4 survivors or something like that.

i said short answer.. the long one is, what you saw was a client side mod, which more then likely is a massive pain in da arse to install also.

Confirmed. That's why I changed to l4dtoolz instead.
You can't get past 8 players anymore since 0.4.4 was released. I think l4d_maxplayers
cvar broke after 0.4.4

I don't think the cvar is broken, because if I do a status check, it says (max players 16). I just can't get more than 8 into it.
