Hi.

I changed settings in BIOS to disable all power settings so it just runs full power.
Running CentOS, I did:
[root@gs7 ~]# cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep "MHz"
cpu MHz : 3400.010
cpu MHz : 3400.010
cpu MHz : 3400.010
cpu MHz : 3400.010
cpu MHz : 3400.010
cpu MHz : 3400.010
cpu MHz : 3400.010
cpu MHz : 3400.010

And after I did:

[root@gs7 ~]# dmidecode -t processor | grep Speed
Max Speed: 2000 MHz
Current Speed: 2000 MHz
[root@gs7 ~]#

Why is my server only running at 2000mhz which it calls max speed? While max speed is actually 3400?? Anyone know that. It is causing alot of issues and lag.

  1. What model is your CPU?
  2. Have you changed the governor to performance?
  3. Have you tried using tuned?
  4. Does it show the same result with bios set to default?
  5. Are you using the default, custom, or old kernel?
  6. Do you have anything running that controls CPU stepping or scaling?

Hi Max.

Thanks for your answer.

As it seems, running a virtual machine (proxmox, solus, etc) defaults a value. While the virtual machine has full access, it will just read a standard value. Problem solved

You're welcome and thank you for letting us know how the problem was solved, even if my questions didn't really help you in particular.
