A new worm, W32/Sasser, is spreading on all Windows systems. It requires no action by the user -- infected machines actively hunt down other systems and infect them remotely (using buffer overflows).

The reason I'm posting this is because I actually got this worm while I was at Providence College today, and I never get viruses, thusly I am pissed off.

I've heard about this-it got to my dad's office and they had to shut down the whole system.

My entire school got it.. They shut down all computer to clean out the virus today

the patch is also available in the most recent windows update

When I searched after cleaning the virus but before rebooting, Windows Update was unable to scan for updates. It claimed that the system clock was incorrect, which I suppose must be a side effect of LSASS.EXE crashing.

If you're infected: clean the infection, reboot, then hurry up and do the Windows Update before you re-catch it.

No seriously he talked to me a day later on IRC and said "I got $500 thanks to you" And I'm like "Why?" And he goes "Yeah I fixed that virus on all of my schools computers... The gave me 1 credit, too"
