The Source Engine will come with a metamod by Valve, built in.

AMXx plugins that rely on engine specifics will not work. We also won't heavily attempt to make them backwards compatible, especially if we don't use Small as the scripting language.

But we'll see

Hehe, last I looked, it was a dead lock between Small and JS.

It's not as close as you think, Dygear.

I dont code. So my opinion probably means nothing. But from a logical standpoint, it would seem easier for all the coders who have already learned small, to continue to use the same language.

Well it is always nice to stay with the tryed and true way of doing things. The only problem is when it is a new product you have to look towards the future. Small just doesn't have the power a lot of other languages have. Plus you just can't change languages half way down the road or you are basically throwing away all the plugins everyone has written before you decided to switch.

We're not here to continue old standards. If that were the case, I'd take the AMX Mod * code base and just slap in the HL2 engine functions.

Things need to change. Small is an impedement to progress, as are many AMX Mod concepts (including the OLOcode base).

would it be possible tho to create a module or plugin that translates old amxx code into hl2 engine code so that it would work or would that be too unstable.

but if your were too make source mod work with hl1's engine and hl2's engine you could controll all your servers with the same type of mod.
plus if you build in some type of web control so that you can monitor all your servers that use source mod then you could manage all your servers at once.

For 90% of the old amxx plugins, it wouldn't be smart to automate their conversion. They will need changes to make them run better anyway :/
