Is it possible to change the ammo type of the weapon?

Just some ideeas:

Probably by hooking GetItemInfo with let's say orpheu and using OrpheuSetStructMember(2, "pszAmmo1", ...), but this looks like a poor way.
Better, you could alter directly ItemInfoArray variable with orpheu. If you want to find how, search for my thread in which Arkshine helped me to find it's address. Something you should test and see how well it works.
