I have been asked to setup a CS:GO surf server, now I have done TF2 surf in the past along time ago but considering the differences between the two games (game mode/type) I am not sure were to start on the config and launch string. I have never done custom game-types on cs:go before. I have done some searching for server guides but I keep finding CS:S or client side stuff. Does anyone have anything I can look at?

What kind of surf server?
You should be fine using casual as game mode and work with the basic config files.

It should only contain cvar/commands that have to be set only one time such as sv_downloadurl. The server.cfg which will be executed after every map change. The gamemode_X_server.cfg (X is the gamemode name such as casual) which will be executed every map change after the server.cfg. This file should contain all cvar/commands based on the game mode you want to run like mp_roundtime, mp_maxrounds etc..

Im guessing casual. I wasn't sure about game mode and game type, or if I had to use some custom stuff. The surf stuff is throwing me off a bit.

Right now I am trying to figure out game type/ game mode and trying to get something basic. I will try that plugin once I get surfing going,

It dosen't matter which you use since you just rename it _server.cfg and edit your own cvars etc. I use mode/type 0 aka casual.
