mysql databases and such... Most servers are rented from a game hosting company. We don't have access to the equipment we need for such a setup. Most of us just have FTP. AMXXmod and Adminmod etc. were perfect for this type of situation. I don't like this.


This is one of the reasons why you don't see psychostats 2 for a lot of servers.

Don't worry, we wouldn't preclude the greater population. SourceMod will have two modes, as I've already said... single server and multi-server mode.

In single server mode, the DB/SQL portion switches to using a local DB implementation instead, so the databases/tables are stored directly as binary files.

MySQL is only an option for people who can use it.

I'd personally love to see an HL2DM as the surprise. I won't give my hopes on it though. Although the rumors about it are enticing. But I'm sure TF2 would come at a later date anyways. I do remember reading that there would be an announcement about it soon after HL2 was released. But then again, maybe that's what the surprise is, just an announcement?

I don't know, too hard to tell. But I can't wait. SDK AND and surprise all in one week shall be very nice.

(And malex, I agree. I'd like to see a pre tag too.)

Organizing configs in a DB is a FANTASTIC idea, especially for those who run multiple servers. I'm very impressed by the planning for this mod, notably the willingness to ditch the legacy of AMX and start from scratch.

And is there any reason MetaMod and its plugins couldn't be run on a separate thread than the game server in HLDS? I mean, having a different thread for SourceMod is great, but I don't understand why it wasn't done before. Or maybe I'm wrong and it was done...
