After playing America's Army, it was nice to know when an admin was present to protect the players from idiots. I believe mahnsawce's Admin Icons plugin (for AMXX) is a good idea. However, his version was for Natural Selection. So, if this were made a standard through SM, then admins could have this option for any Game Mod.

Suggested CVar:
1. sm_adminicon 1/0

Also, if this idea is accepted, several Icons should be made to provide a visual difference between Admins with certain levels (AdminMod-esque) or even to discern between Clan Members and Allies (who have been granted low-level admin rights). And I think FreeCode is more than capable of creating some quality icons.

Its not possible in mods other then ns, as it requires modifying the mod's source code

What about changing the color of names to pre-specified colors?

Same problem it is a game specific thing. The best I think you could possible do is do a clan tag protection thing with the tag [ADMIN] or something and auto assign admins the tag when they join the game if a option was enabled like smv_showadmins.

Or have a plugin that montiors the say chat.

When someone types "say admins" or "say /admins" or does a console command sm_admins, it displays a short list of available admins. Maybe?? *shrugs*

Whatever it is, it must be possible to turn it off by the admin. It's less fun to "play" with people when they know you're an admin.

The icons fit for NS and that's about it... for one reason.

Everybody who plays that mod loves feeling better than everybody else. How do they do it? Give themselves an icon. Hooray! They're now X times better than everybody else in the world combined!

Oh, that and it was programmed into the client; there's not much that could be done if it's not programmed directly into the client display.

In HL1, atleast, there's IN_SCORE to tell when the user is looking at the score board. You could trap that and put sprites in the appropriate place on the screen. Might be a little resource-intensive, since you'd have to recalculate the position whenever someone looks at the screen, and whenever anyone's score changes, but it might be possible.

That, and you can't draw custom icons on player's screens with just a server mod...

Replace the scoreboard entirely with an entity in the world that shows up to the player when he hits tab. It could be an obelisk with the names, records and icons carved into it. It'll be ub3rl33t!
