The latest MM:S 1.10-dev snapshots now support Dota 2.

Note that only the GameInfo installation method is supported. Dota 2 has removed the capability to load VSP plugins via vdf files.

You'll very like also want this MM:S plugin: Dota 2 Fixups.

SM support for D2 is still pending.

That's really awesome, thanks a lot man!

About the Dota 2 Fixups, I'm not sure if I understood it correctly. You can host a dedicated server if you use Alien Swarm's dedicated server with Dota 2's files and the "-game dota" parameter? If so, what happens to the server after a match? Do players need to reconnect to play another match?

Yes, just drop Alien Swarm's srcds.exe in beside dota.exe.

No clue! It's pretty experimental right now but feel free to share your findings.

Alright, I'll get some info and report back soon. Should I make a new reply so you receive a notification or should I edit this post?

By the way, I assume I'll have to extract everything from the .vpk? Or does the newest srcds.exe looks into the .vpk files too?

You do not need to extract files from the vpk pack.

Tested some things:
Players are able to play together over whatever network (even the INTERNET)!
After ~10 minutes once the match has been decided, SRCDS closes entirely with "Closing after Match"
