Hi guys,

It seems like i have an issue with my FastDL, I have searched a lot about it but seems like there is no option or shits which can speedup it.

For exemple, when i download a map of 1.4Mo on my server it take approx 2 minutes. By DDL from fastdl repo it's instant (i have 1Gbps down) it's always like that, i'm a bit lost.

It varies a lot depending on a lot of different factors, your own download speed isn't the only.

If your download is 1 Gbit as you say, but the server only has an upload speed of 10 Mbit, then the 10 Mbit speed of the server will win. If a lot of others are using the same server (very common with web hosting package s that they load thousands of domains on same server), then their use will also affect your performance.

Server locations also matters a little bit, if you are in the EU as your forum location says, but your fastdl web server is located in United States, that itself would usually also give lower speeds than if your fastdl was in your own country or one of the neighbor countries..

Without more information than what you've provided so far, the most obvious would be to tell you to try downloading more than one location, and eventually try switching to another provider for your fastdl web server.

Sorry i thought i gave enough informations, i already know those facts but i'm not limited by anything.

To make it simple:

- My FastDL is hosted on a dedicated web server managed by me
- This server is located in france like me
- The server has 100Mbps upload speed (sometimes more)

WebServer Speedtest
Code:
Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Testing from OVH SAS (188.165.221.228)...
Selecting best server based on latency...
Hosted by Orange (Paris) [1.59 km]: 9.013 ms
Testing download speed........................................
Download: 818.63 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed..................................................
Upload: 95.38 Mbit/s
Home SpeedTest

The thing is when i drectly donload a file from my FastDL, it's just using the whole necessary bandwidth but not through CS

You haven't posted your server's address so i joined the first one from from here and it had an empty sv_downloadurl.

Which it is the final extension from your fastdownload? (for example: .com | .es.tl | .xe, etc)

That server has a proper sv_downloadurl, and it works fine.

Speeds from here is 18-20 MB/s; ~140 - 160 Mbit.

Your biggest map, surf_christmas.bsp.bz2 (97 MB) downloads directly (outside the game) in ~6 seconds.

Within the game, that map downloads in like ~23 seconds, after which my game crashes. "Engine Error" with "Host_Error: recursively entered":

Code:
$ du -sh surf_christmas.bsp
182M surf_christmas.bsp
Since the original (uncompressed) version is over 150 MB, I believe that issue could be tied together with this, and you should only have that on your fastdl as .bsp.

.net.
Well, is it took me more than 1 minutes to DL a map on this server with the same FastDL repo. Even if it's not so slower for you, it's still not really fast compared to DDL. Don't you think ?

Also, are you telling me that maps over 150Mb shouldn't be compressed ?

@NanoC, What could be problematic with domains extension ?

There are a few options:
- Server Caching
- CDN Caching (Handy with HDD's and if you are limited with RAM)
- SSD
- bz2 everything (Yes, some maps are not working 150mb+, try it out..)

Extension has 0% to do with this, go play outside Nanoc

Send me a PM for some info..
