ok I just tried with the windows version, but in this case the server wouldn't even start.

I will stick to gameinfo.txt for now and wait for further instructions

By the way, if I chmod gameinfo.txt to 444 wouldn't that effectively prevent that file from being overwritten during an update?

Looks like game-monitor saying that your server is windows base and not linux.

Oh yes I am quite an idiot, the server does run Windows server 2003 (thats what the host told me)
however server wont start with the windows version of the vdf either
this is the case even with all the metamod plugins removed (I only have one, Bat)

So, back-pedaling a bit, what happens if you run this (disabling gameinfo MM:S first)?

I'll try that when my server gets back up (been down all day)
I kinda dumped the problem on the host and I am hoping they can handle it.

well I cant do anything since the server wont start at all with the vdf in place

You can remove the vdf to test plugin_load.
