Also, sometimes restarting your own steam. idk, but it has been a solution on occasion for ppl.

Not for now, but it'll include plugin interfacing (so an Achivements plugin can determine if a hat can be used or not, for example).

Why do people want to use the !settings thing, though?

1 stop place to set your settings as !settings is part of client prefs.

Does anyone know how I setup an index for the custom hats? Currently I have installed the files for the custom hat, added the lines to the TF2_ItemList.cfg and created a .dep file and placed it in the same directory as the model. But when I select the hat, my character appears to be wearing a huger error sign. Any ideas?

I think this is a neat mod, nicely done.
I am wondering though, can you allow more than one hat on? I have heard people doing it before, like wearing the top hat and the camera beard.

I have just one custom hat that insists on being downloaded every time. It has a .dep file associated with it. Any ideas?

Put them in different slots.

Correct, all our users type !settings to set quake prefs and stuff, so would only make sense.
