Hi there, I've noticed since the update, any mods which required the client to download, doesn't even try to push the files to the players any more. Verified this by deleting the files from my own install and joining. sv_allowdownload and cl_downloadfiler are both set to the correct settings.

Is there something I'm missing here?

I am only having that issue with one sound and thats due to a custom mod. If they are custom sounds try changing their names like:
oldsound.mp3 to newsound.mp3

Apart from that quakesounds is working for me and everyone of my sounds are custom.
Are you using a fast download server?

quakesounds is the problem actually. I'm using a pretty default configuration of it, default sounds and all that. I'm not currently using a fast download server simply because this is a test box. Is that really an issue? If so, I'll throw up a fast download mirror and let you know.

Just to verify, is it still

hahahaha That part did my head in as well, its still

/root (representing cstrike folder)/maps
/root (representing cstrike folder)/sounds
etc

Just remember that the path cant be longer than 32 charactures (I think)
So you wouldnt have. www . thisismylongservername/quakegoesinhere/maps etc.

I have dedicated ip's so its just "http : //xxx . xxx . xxx . xxx/"

At least that works for me. Let me know how you go.

Also I made a post in quakesounds revamped, as people are having trouble, I am not, maybe my configs? They are posted in the thread too.

did you check you cl_downloadfilter all ?

I can confirm this affects different servers to different degrees. On my linux server, I ended remastering and renaming the standard quake sounds and moving them into a new folder. Another member and I watched as 1 quake sound at a time would stop working on his Win32 server; they're still broken.

The testing on my linux machine was with sv_pure 0 and no pure_server_whitelist.txt file.
I do have the attached files below in my orangebox/cstrike directory.
I haven't seen anyone mention these file yet. Are they replacements for the pure_server_whitelist.txt file?

What I observed was:
1) I had sounds under misc that DID work
2) Any sound under quake would not work, including one copied from item 1 above
3) When I copied the quake sounds to a new folder, some started working.
4) When I remastered and renamed (don't know if rename important) the broken sounds, they all worked.

I hope this is just some weird bug that gets fixed and not some Gestapo move.

I'm glad for you mate. Do you use anything other than sounds, like maps, models?
Bacardi made an interesting post about the pure list, its here, may not be relevant to you but if you find some sounds aren't working it may help. If your not having any trouble don't change a bloody thing

How did you test it? Did you delete your client side sounds first then join? (delete files from your pc and rejoin to see if downloading?)

mate that seems a lot of hard work, did you try just renaming them first? a.sound to b.sound? Or did you start backwards and rewrite an overture lol. I had a problem with only one sound not downloading, renamed and it was fine. I'll test it all again and dbl check.

Yes I just deleted them from my hard drive, and lo and behold they downloaded.

Lumi I've been playing with different approaches and I've found that for me, the best way is to just rename a file:

sound.mp3 to >> sound1.mp3 but the folder seems to be the dominating force. rename: folder /sound/ to /sound2/. seems to be allot easier and more responsive.

I did this with many trials and it seems to have taken all my worries away. Just deleting the files from client side isnt going to help players joining your server, renaming the folder will.
