Best way to log console

Hi what is the best way to log all from console (linux)
hlds command .... blah blah > cs.log &
Something like this ?

If mp_logdetail actually takes more than just 0 and 1 then it's not so much self explanatory.

Why not? The higher the number, the more details get logged.

Well you are just assuming that. Even if that is true, you don't know what information it adds for each step.
