By the way if you're getting a new computer you might want to consider upgrading to DDR4 at higher frequencies for your ram and dropping the HDD in favor to an SSD (of perhaps 250GB)

AMD is NOT going to fucking cut it (my university's matlab virtual machine server is running AMD and holy fuck it is awful). You need high end intel i5's, i7's, or xeons with > 3 GHz clock speed.

Mine is an i7-3770 and it runs my TF2 servers fine (though it's MvM).

Also you don't REALLY need an SSD. An SSD will only boost startup time but real-time performance will not change much (depending how much I/O you do, which should be pretty low). Throw the money you would otherwise spend on an SSD to a better CPU.

If you want to buy a good CPU, I heard i7-4790k is really fast (and can theoretically handle 128-tick 64P csgo servers as well) and it's $350 USD.

EDIT: Are you SERIOUSLY running srcds in ROOT privileges on Linux? Did anyone else not at all notice that?

I'm curious of connection speed too - if residential then that may be also causing problems and for most ISP's not allowed.

Also i was saying to get an SSD instead as to my understanding he would use that "server" as a personal computer as well. Am i wrong?

I would recommend this. I got this for my personal computer alittle while ago and it's blazing fast. $330 on amazon
