From my experience every join and (rage)quit calls a heartbeat effect itself.

Also, the higher your server rank is and the more players are connected, the more likely new joiners are for you.

If your Playercount drops to 4 or below it's unlikely you'll get replacements. However joining an empty enemy team seems to help sometimes.

This plugin will make every connected client including the server send out a heartbeat

Yea, but I have also experienced when someone quits, no one will join until a map change usually. This will fix that issue.

If you are lobby leader playing the game, look at your console, it will show you a bunch of info of connecting player requests and stuff. If you are not the leader, you will not see that info.

This is a good plugin, but i have just bound the heartbeat command to a key. So i just press F8 and it enters the heartbeat command.

on a side note

bamn87 i have a question about you sig.

How can you call your servers "vanilla" when you run the cevo mod?

Vanilla servers means you are not running any mods/plugins that change the game play in any way.

Cevo is not that, cevo mod changes the game play in Left 4 Dead a lot. Forcing no medkits and making tanks and witchs spawn on every level. This is a very big game change.

Making your server a Cevo server not a vanilla server.

If you are not the lobby leader your bound heartbeat key wont do anything. This plugin makes everyone heartbeat, so even if you are not the lobby leader it will work.

I am too lazy to change the sig. Plus if you read CEVO in the hostname, you know its not pure vanilla. But there are really no gameplay changes like extra tanks, perk mods, droping from ledges.. etc.. Its CEVO vanilla

Plus when you join my server it will show you everything that is different in the server

The reason why heartbeat sometimes fails is because everyone knows about it. Imagine 50+ servers sending hearbeats fighting for that top priority list. Best thing you can do is leave your server for public when you are not using it so it can have a better server ranking.

I'd like to see if anyone using this has actually noticed an increase in the number of players they having coming through their server. Anyone care to share if running this actually makes a difference?

Thanks for the plugin. My server isn't getting stuck with 7 players anymore, and when someone ragequits, we dont have to wait long for new players to join.
But can you add possibility to send heartbeats every X seconds when there are less then 8 players and the game is NOT for Friends only?
