I was wondering if someone would be interested in making a plugin that would add the IDLE: PlayerName back to the HUD.

In L4D1 if you go Idle all the players can see that you're idle easily by looking at your player name right there at the bottom but for some unknown reason Valve decided to remove this quite useful piece of information from us and force you to have to crosshair over the player to find out if they're active or Idle.
For me it's one of the more annoying changes in L4D2.

Is it even possible to do such a thing? If so I'd be most appreciative.

Thanks!

If someone who make this, can you add a command to force people to go idle?

It's basicly change their names to "IDLE: <oldname>" while they're idle.

It shows like that when you point your mouse to a character. The name above their head shows "IDLE: <oldname>". But in realism those names aren't shown ofcourse.

It nothing gamebreaking though...

What is gamebreaking is when a person is afk but not idle. Picture waiting in the saferoom with 3 people ready and one person afk. You can't head on because the bot doesn't go idle after x amount of minutes. By then, the team of 3 people could be way ahead... When the bot incaps itself now that it's idle, all 3 have to go back to revive. That's why I'm suggesting to add a 'forceidle' command to force someone to go idle when they forgot to click Take A Break, or just couldn't click it while next level loaded.

Certainly it's nothing game breaking. Mostly it's just an annoyance from my perspective and personally I prefer to see the IDLE on my HUD, not having to search around for the player and hope that the name shows up correctly above their characters model.

The HUD is still active on Realism. The only thing that doesn't show is glowing outlines and the names above characters... there's really no reason to not show someone IDLE on the HUD.

I'm not personally concerned with being able to force someone to go idle but I can see your point of view.

Hopefully the plugin wouldn't be too hard to make at least the change name part.. I have no idea how hard it would be to add a Force Idle function.

I've started learning how to script a sourcemod plugin. I'm getting the gist of it, but still have a long way to go and a lot to practise. However, this type of plugin might be the perfect example to make as first plugin.

I might be wrong though... :p

EDIT: Yea, I'm gonna give it a shot.

go for it man! I believe in you!

I'm no programmer or I'd try it myself.

Hardware, Networking, Infrastructure... I'm your guy... writing code... forget it.. D:

I'm sure there are some folks here that'd be happy to help you... post up what you come up with... Start simple and build on it...

I bet you can do it if you're geared for this sort of thing.
