I have SourceMod 1.4.2-dev and metamod 1.8.7 with SDK hooks 2.1 installed, yet when i uploaded the pre compiled plugin fromt eh main post to the plugins folder and the .txt to the gamedata folder and goto restart the server i have an issue where the server will not restart.

When i disable or delete the two files the server restarts.

From the notes in the main post i thought having 1.4.2 (hg 3479) stable branch sm i was ok even though it is a developer release?

Maybe it has to be 1.4.2 stable and not the dev.

Ok mate thx i will give that a go and reply back later tonight.

l4d2_knife_unlock.txt isn't in your gamedata folder?

I checked it 5 times and also made sure by way of asking my host company if they were having any issues with the folder structures on servers it was all as the instructions ask on the main post.

The .txt file is indeed in there, when i read the error logs i was thinking i had perhaps skipped that part but indeed i hadn't, i even deleted the one in there and replaced with a fresh downloaded one incase it might have been corrupted somehow.

The plugin is not able to read the gamedata txt file. Check the files permissions, it's probably an issue with that.

Thanks for plugin. But you can also enable the Knfie by editing the server.dll in \left4dead2\bin .

Well of course... that's why I found this method of patching the games memory instead of editing the .dll. It's the exact same thing. Edit the .dll every update or 1 time install the plugin? Also isn't editing the server.dll against some terms of agreement with Valve?

Done so, even created a new .txt file manually with the same output and double checked the permissions no luck unfortunately.

I will just have to use the 1.4.2 release not the -dev one thanks for replying.

If this was TF2 or CS:S they would probably black list a server with modded server.dll but since valve dosn't have black list for L4D/2 I don't think that's possible.

If you on the other hand change .dll's in your steam installation folder, you might get your account suspended/VAC banned for violating valve policies yes.
