have a HLDS server/14 man slot running on console.
My problem is, it spikes or somtimes lags big time, it lags to like 1000-2000 ping, when it comes to about 9-10 people. I've been playing around with sv_maxrate and minrate settings. It does somtimes work, but most of the time it doesnt.
What could be causing this?
I have a cable connection running[ As for the result from "http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/". it was on 3008 kbps downspeed/248kbps downspeed]

heres my spec
Quote:
windows XP 2002
i have a DELL DIMENSION Intel(R)
Celeron(R) CPU 2.53GHz
2.53 GHz, 256 MB of RAM
I dont know much about computers, i just copied it by right-click on mycomputer desktop.

Could someone caculate this for the right settings i could use for my server since you guys are expert at this. =]
oh and im also running a Booster metamod plugin 2.4.0.0. but i dont know if its the one causing the lag/or helping it?

What's your uplink speed?

Edit: Oh, 256 Kbps is your uplink? And 256MB of Ram?

You should forget about 14 slots man. Google around about the memory need of HLDS per slot + how many slots you can host concidering your connection.

256 is my RAM..
"3008 kbps downspeed/248kbps downspeed"

As that makes no sense, I presumed your uplink speed is 248, which theoretically would be 256.

Anyways, what's your actual uplink speed then? If you have a good connection, you'll get less lag by just getting more RAM.

Forward your server port to 27016.
Because you (your client cs) is running on 27015.
If you play on your server its lagging because you and your hlds is using port 27015

Set it to 27016, it worked for me

Hmm running 14 man server on that low of computer specs is idiotic imo. Clearly your uplink is insufficient to handle such amounts of traffic. Also, your internet provider if they find out will suspend your account as servers are illegal under most ISP TOS. 248kbps uplink is nowhere near enough especially not when you are running so many plugins. Also, check your CPU/RAM usage and leave task manager up or get a secondary maintenance program to graph the data - maybe the CPU is spiking at certain points - that is not a good processor nor sufficient ram to host such an intense server. You either need to upgrade or pay for someone/company to host it because no way in hell are many people going to want to play in a server with 1000 ms and choke coming out their eyeballs.

Good luck, have fun, please don't make babies:
