"hunting_knife" worked for me, but with a strange animation problem each team you scratch with the knife. Sound seems to be missing aswell.
Gonna do a verify_all check on the files.

For some reason if you are playing a campaign in coop, the clients need the .vpk else sounds are sometimes missing, and animations tend to be a lil jerky ect... but in versus, sounds and everything work fine... I only play versus, so it doesnt really bother me, but if you play coop get the other clients to get it, or just play with the lil brakages

as for my spelling, i'm sorry

and as for hunting knife, the vpk i used spawns them in the saferoom fine, never seen them anywhere else tho

the vpk also enables the riot shield, which is the worse melee weapon every, but still its a giggle XD

also thanks the fixed vpk, saves me moving XD, also i believe to enable the hunting knife, its just knife bt i lobbed everything in, like golfclub is in twice, "golfclub" & "golf_club". I believe its the first one, but it covers everything if i do both.

Yup, hunting_knife DOES work, but it does have some animation glitches.

new version in first post, fixing all animation glitches

put the .vpk in your addons folder, and the plugin in your plugins folder and it should work fine

Basically when your server starts it extracts the vpk into its cache directory (or something like that) then when a player joins the server, the modified files are downloaded, overwriting the normal ones, making all melee weapons work without glitches and with all audio working

also i can clarify, in the plugin cfg its hunting_kinfe not knife.

and about the error reported earlier, coulden't reproduce it. i guess it was cuz I loaded the plugin manually and forgot to delete old .cfg

Wait - downloaded? Is this plugin sending files to clients? Are you telling me there's a way to do that? Wha?!

would appear, but in l4d it doesnt. it's just a black screen untill all the files are downloaded... and causes allot of d/c on big files... so only use it on small files.

to make it work, on map start use the command

AddFileToDownloadsTable("the file to download relative to the left4dead2 folder");

that file will then be downloaded by all clients.

I'm assuming the animations just wouldn't work right?
Not many people will, as there is no setting in the options like there is in other multiplayer source games, so those who do will have to have changed cl_downloadfilter manually.

Also @ n3wton, I grabbed those lines out of the console. I wasn't just making examples.

Probably I'm gonna extend the plugin at some point to add some more fail safes... like turning sv_downloadable on in the server etc... don't know what i can do client side tho.

and i had no idea that came up in the console... awsome XD
