Hi guys, I need help on getting this server up. I downloaded a dedicated server from steam, tool bar. I also portforwarded. My problem is, I can't even see my own server. How can i be able to see my own dedicated server?

When you start your Dedicated server through steam, you should see GUI Mode of the server.

yes, that thing does come up. But the problem is, when I go to counter strike to find my server, it's not there. Any idea?

first of all, I thank you for letting me know that you'll try your best to help me to get this thing work. Unfortunately, I already tried that. I did go to the www.whatismyip.com, wrote the ip address down, turned on the dedicated server, and I tried to find it but it won't show up... sometimes it shows up but it says "not responding" What else can I do?

that is a common error, that is because your trying to 'look at yourself through a mirror' and that wont work out, you need to give the external IP to all your friends and you connect to the internal IP (192.168.X.XXX) there is no way to connect to the external IP when your behind a router.. just say something if you need more help..

Sounds like a firewall issue, or port forwarding issue.

Make sure that you properly forwarded all the needed ports on your router. Also be sure to forward them on any firewalls running on your system and/or network.

The main one being Windows Firewall if you have it turned on, you can simply add an exception, through Control Panel, for the server executable.

Double check that all your port forwarding is properly setup. Steam suggests the following ports to be open:

UDP 27000 to 27020 inclusive
TCP 27020 to 27050 inclusive
TCP 27015

As for your firewall, you should keep it enabled, just add an exception for the server executable, or forward the ports as needed.

If your machine is running any other firewall software or anti-virus software, make sure that they allow the connections to pass through and that the ports are forwarded in them too as needed.

You should also set the sv_region properly for your server:

sv_region codes
  • 0 - US East coast
  • 1 - US West coast
  • 2 - South America
  • 3 - Europe
  • 4 - Asia
  • 5 - Australia
  • 6 - Middle East
  • 7 - Africa
  • 255 - world
