Well, the reason I was worried, is because of who the recipient was on the confirmation email from paypal. It says. "Receipt for your Payment to OSDN / VA Software" I have never donated to a sourceforge-based project, so I dont know if this is normal or not.

I read the FAQ and it says it reroutes the requests in batches, twice a day. I think they can do this so they can take off like $1 for themselves (or 5%, I forget which).

By the way, I still need new hardware advice =P

Stick with the VIA chipset, as it has far better kernel support.

What's a good motherboard to get? And what's the difference between all the 14x and 24x? I was looking at Newegg and they all had basically the same specs.

Depends on if you are doing single or dual cpu, and what kind if rackspace do you have. i.e. rackmount or tower case?

as for hardware is depends how much u can spend really, my suggestion would be:

AMD Opteron 144 1.8GHz 1MB Cache (Retail with Fan)
Asus SK8V (Socket 940) Motherboard
Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200LL Pro TwinX (2x512MB) CAS2

Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB or Geforce 5900 128MB (both have just dropped in price and are pretty cheap)

2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 Serial ATA 160GB

to be honest that would be more a gaming system than a server, if your server really is going to be a workhorse then maybe go for scsi drives as opposed to sata (i might be wrong on this i havent looked into sata yet, dont know if scsi is still better)

i have gone for higher end stuff as well, you can get much cheaper motherboards and ram for that matter
