Many hosters provide 2 types of server...500 FPS & 1000 FPS...

I never understood what does server side fps really mean..

is it like if i m running 500 FPS Server for 32 slots so 500 fps will get divided in playing players?

I dont think it's really like that.. I have seen many players getting 100.5 fps ..
so it wud be like if 5 players get 100.5 fps in (500 FPS SERVER) so other 27 players will get 0 fps.

Please explain

The server frame rate is not related to the frame rate you are thinking of on your PC. When people talk FPS on their own PC they are usually referring to the graphics card frame rate (how often your image is updating). The FPS on the server relates to how often it processes the server's data.

To add to what fysiks said:

All players on the 1000fps server will have a 1ms lower latency than on the 500fps one
Many people call it "ping" but it's not really the ping, the "latency" in the scoreboard is ping + server processing time
A 1000fps server does 1000 cycles of processing a second, while a 500fps one does 500. Because of this, since the higher FPS server can crunch more data and respond to client requests faster, and even though we're talking of just a couple of miliseconds, the latency decreases. This has nothing to do with the player's connection speed or quality.

Many people especially when playing war or mix matches want a ping as low as possible, so the cost for a 1000fps server at 12-14 slots is worth it. For public 32 slot servers, 500 (or even 333 if you ask me) fps is more than enough as the added latency won't make a noticable difference. If you can afford to splurge and want to deliver the best possible response time regardless of the server mod, go for 1000.

Also, anything over 1000 is bullshit, if you see it advertised, don't buy into it. HLDS can't run over 1000, a lot of things break. Even if it could run at let's say 2000, it would only be a 1ms difference from 1000, which is absolutely not worth it for the extra CPU usage.

Hmmm, 5? 1000 is every 1ms, 500 is every 2ms. So, the difference is 1ms.

if a player getting 70 fps on 500 FPS server he will get same fps on 1k fps server right ? changing server side fps doesnt effect on clients fps right ?

will it reduce lag and make server registry good ?

Remember that if you're going to run heavy plugins (ZP for example), higher server FPS means problems.

For example:
100 FPS => 10ms max processing time for each frame
1000 FPS => 1ms max processing time for each frame

If you don't have the power (more fps doesn't mean more power) to process the whole frame loop withing your plugins (all hooks, callbacks, forwards, etc) then you will have server fps drops.

If your whole frame needs from 0.5ms to 2ms your 1000FPS server will get drops to 500FPS with choke, overflows and lag spikes on client side.

So, you should always take these metrics into account.
