Hello there. I'd like to know which hardware should i use to open a dedicated server to run a Zombie Escape with 64 slots.
I mean, something that can be cheap and good to run it without high var and lag.
I think the first components i need are:
- i7
- 16GB RAM
- SSD
- Connection..?
- ??
Thank you so much for the help.

Hey NanoC,

I think you can only do that on a Windows server. Linux unfortunately does not support multithreading and 64 people on one core is too much according to my experience. I myself also have a Linux (Surf server) with 85.3 tickrate and 40 Slots and I get over 100% on one core "But the server was not laggy".

Please correct me if I am wrong.

That's some serious BS. Use what you want and is best for your machine, but don't just say nonsense.

It's been able to use more than one thread for a long time.

I use Linux and its fine.

Tbh you can rent a 64 slot server and it's way cheaper if you do that instead of using a dedicated server for just one server.

I don't understand. If you know the articles I linked, why did you say the following if it contradicts it?

Since those articles show that it can.

The thread above talks about how Linux has multi-threading, nothing about ZE or performance on which machine.

You can inquire with game hosters to give you such an option. We do this all the time, you just need to send them an email or speak with their live support should they have it. Most the time they don't offer it because beyond that amount is never needed and is a special circumstance since it wasn't a option initially.

To answer your initial question, you just need a good high frequency clock speed server to support that many players. If it's only one server, i7-4770k and higher would work well with only 4GB of RAM most likely in your scenario. You don't need SSD but it will help when the server changes maps or initially loads, that's if they don't already have the drives in some performance RAID.

Thank you for this answer. So, for only 1 server with 64 slots i'll need:
i7-4770k.
4GB Ram
(Optional) A SSD to change map quickly.
What about connection? Maybe 10mbps?
And about game servers, i've asked and they said that isn't possible because they do overselling and they have a lot of customers, that's why i want my own dedicated server
