Something that is already planned for some time now goes into a beta stage - ingame advertising. Valve is now testing the ingame advertising for Counter-Strike 1.6 using "Valves default ads" during the beta and afterwards a wide range of advertisements will be present. So far there are only a few ads at the walls or the scoreboard, i.e. at the CT-Spawn and also at both sides of the bombspot B entrance on de_dust2. You can take a look at screens below:



If you want to try it out yourself, you need to start the Steam.exe with the commandline "-beta cs". For more information and bug reports, visit the developer community of Valve.

I find this funny, more than anything. It's basically showing that they suck so much that they can only release a couple good games, then they get close to going bankrupt so they suck as much money out of those as possible.

What I find even more funny is that CS wasn't even originally by them. They just bought the rights to it, now they're screwing it up even more.

Hawk552: You've just about summed it up. It's admitting that Source wasn't as successful as they'd have liked, so their motivation is either to annoy 1.6 users or to test the waters of milking Source, realizing that 1.6 is more popular. Or both.
