is there such a thing? to take the skybox from say a custom map and put it in another map without actually editing the map? i know you can use various official skyboxs via the mapname.cfg way but that is often bad because of the sun entity when using dark/nighttime skyboxs

Set sv_skyname to change the skybox texture then reconnect.

If clients have the custom skybox materials downloaded to their computer, yes.
