im trying to set up ftp on my linux server so i can transfer files using filezilla from my computer onto the server. like how some server companys use it for people to transfer files onto the server.

im pretty sure i used to correct terminology when i said ftp server, so if someone who knows what that is could help me...

What distro is the Linux box? vsftpd is easy to set up if your distro supports it

Just wondering why would you use ftp when you can just use sftp? I mean if you're the only one who will be fiddling with the files just use sftp. If you can ssh, then you probably already have sftp.

Code:
yum install vsftpd
Code:
chkconfig --levels 235 vsftpd on
/etc/init.d/vsftpd start

coca-cola, which version of Linux do you have?
Try to install vsftpd like Yami said, its pretty simple to set up, I did it manually on a Fedora that was annoying as hell (I set up certificates too mind you), I'm sure if you are using Ubuntu or something it would be easier to set up.

Google <Linux Distro> FTP Server

Find an FTP server, and go through the setup, chances are the website has instructions / documentation.
