Someone started selling an unrestricted version to game communities, so in order to destroy his market I decided to open it up.

Valve knows whats up so don't count on it lasting. The only intention was to prevent a class of servers profiteering from unrestricted attachments while valve figures out what to do.

Don't people realize Valve gave us the ability to equip items on the condition not to use Valve content? Isn't there something else we can do to stop them? Next thing you see is we can't attach any custom skins at all anymore.

they could have just forbid using valve model at the first place, rather than doing hackish stuff like that

They did, this plugin exploited a flaw in their code, but imposed it's own limit that Valve content couldn't be used. Valve banned all attachments.
