Might be a little off topic.

But in the last year I've seen a surge of jackasses with scripts or other means to crash a game server. And there seems to be no way to stop them. If they are brazen and use the opportunity to say something along the lines of "ENJOY THE SERVER CRASH" immediately before the crash then I'll steam/IP ban them later.

But if they say nothing... if it's just a really disgruntled person or enemy of the server .... there seems to be no defense whatsoever. I know it's illegal to be doing this but I've seen a massive surge in the last year, from almost never to about once a month at least.

The crashes are usually protracted and cause clients to nearly disconnect several times before a final crash. If the player doing it is kicked/banned during it, it stops if the crash wasn't instantaneous.

Any strategies to deal with this?
