There have been far too many cases of legitimate sites being hijacked and having their scripts subtly altered to exploit browser bugs to install malware on peoples PCs.

You don't have to be running as a superuser to install some forms of malware.

Just install Avast. It detects all viruses and enough non-viruses are also detected. I.e. big number of false alarms but for you it is OK
