well i'hv got CS 1.6 p43/44 and amxmodx 1.8.2 and i am running CSGG for a long time and it hasnt given me any error so. i dont think GG is dead..Although Avalanche may hv stopped supporting it..but it works so nope..not dead..

do you mean protocol 47/48 ? if yes, then he's talking about new legal updated versions of the game, as outdated non-steam patches still working with old versions of this mod.
