Are there any plans to allow random sounds for events?

I'll have a look at it.
Some little fixes for now.

Version 3.2.0
  • Added round_start event for CS:S so the sound limit for players can be reset each round
  • Fixed some join sound bugs:
    • A join sound doesn't count to a players sound quota any more
    • A join sound doesn't affect the anti sound spam function

I gave this plugin a try since it says its for ALL.

im trying to get it to work with L4D2. I get the menu's and everything but no sound ever plays. I have tried placing the sounds both on the server and on the clien but still nothing plays

Is there any way to turn off the sounds played by dead players for alive players?

Can report silence aswell, whenever you try to play a file in your l4d2 sounds folder that is not there by default.

Nothing in the errorlogs .. is there something i could try?

I tried to adapt the plugin for our server a little bit.

It is not tested further, but it works on our server.
We're running a CSS Server with SM 1.2.4

I've added some features:
- turn sounds on/off to clientprefs (!settings)
- possibility to interrupt the current sound when a new start
- possibility alive players do not hear sounds triggered by dead players (like mani's)

added 2 new cvars:
- sm_saysoundhe_interrupt_sound 1 // If set, interrupt the current sound when a new start
- sm_saysoundhe_filter_if_dead 0 // If set, alive players do not hear sounds triggered by dead players

If anyone is interested, he may try it.
But I give no guarantee that it works and do not know whether it works with other mods.

It's shown as Version 3.2.1-unofficial

L4D (and probably L4D2 -- I haven't tried) won't download any files (AddFileToDownloadsTable() doesn't seem to have any effect). So, unless the client has already downloaded the sounds to the correct directory, they won't hear anything.

Apparently, the EmitSound() might not even work in L4D2 either :/

Are you sure you placed the files in the correct directory, in the sound directory (that doesn't exist) of the left4dead2 directory, which is inside another left4dead2 directory (left4dead2/left4dead2/sound) ?

The files are there and you can actually get clients to download files (using the sm_download plugin).

But the sounds are played "null", which means while the plugin thinks theyre being played you hear nothing.
