My server is recently crashing a lot, when it didn't before.
I thought it was some plugin or something that might been causing this because of some update on CS:S.

So I was there, and the server started lagging, I banned a player which I had my suspicions on him.
And suddenly the server stopped lagging.
A couple of secs later, that player sends me a message, threatning to "shut down" the server unless I unbanned him.

Of course I refused to do that, so he kept crashing the server.

I think he crashes the server without being in it, as it look it.

I have set the server to ban if rcon is failed, just to make sure he wasn't using that trick of spamming rcon commands to the server and crashing it.

The only way I can think of now, is that he is DOSing the server.

But there is probably some other ways of crashing the server without being in it?

I have his steamid and IP.

I was hoping somebody could give me some plugins or something else I could put in my server to protect against these crashes.

I mean, if all else fails, I'm planning on contacting the server host and ask them to ban his IP on the firewall, but I doubt they would do that....

if he's actually DOSing your server, you should contact the hosting company and tell them somebody is flooding their servers.

I've been DoS'd before and that plugin helped for the most part back then. Again, no idea if it works. Just add it to addons folder.

There are many exploits in the Source engine that feel like a DoS/DDoS attack. I won't go into what they are, but just make sure you are running DAF (DoS Attack Fix), Server-Secure, and whatever else is recommended right now (just check out the threads).

Also, just to mention, if he was doing any of these exploits that I am aware of, or a DoS/DDoS attack, kicking him from your server would have done nothing. These attacks are not done by being connected to the server.

I had DAF already installed, and the server was still crashing.


Now I've installed Rcon locker / exploit fix and Forlix Flood checker

I was playing, and the server started crashing again, pings going high, but it lasted 15 secs then it stopped.
Then after 30 secs it would come again.

The server lagged , but it didn't crash.
There was always a short amout of time between the attacks, maybe the plugins blocked him for that X time.
Let's see if whoever was doing that is now discouraged and maybe will stop.

I tried to install server secure but I guess I don't know how, as I couldn't get it to work.

The server is linux.
