....you people shouldn't be hosting and playing on the same machine.

This is possible

1. Start the server via srcds.exe (batch file)
2. Create a shortcut to the game on your desktop.

With the following path:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo.exe -steam

You can also add your usual lanuch parameters. (-console etc)

3.DONE
Never use the steam interface to start CS:GO. Use the created shortcut on your desktop.

I just wanted to continue contributing to the community, hope someone gets use of this, even if it's an old thread.

As of the recent update I cannot get the shortcut to start my game. Any fixes on this?

Open steam_appid.txt in root folder of csgo server. Change 730 to 740.

...one way in my mind, Windows 10 Pro and better versions have Virtual Sandbox, require also Virtualization from Processor.
I have not tested, I have Home edition.
