Here are a few reasons I believe steam has to go!

-First it took them 14 years to release a mac client
-They still hold the linux client hostage
-They still have not fixed rcon
-Vac is a joke
-Steam client is a joke (it only closes when it wants too) and wastes memory
-Disregard for server admins and modders

And I could keep going on this but I am sure others will chime in.

Solution
A free alternative that is not biased and open source maybe then the dreadful days of rebuilding a server once a month will be a distant memory

So I take it you're going to unload steam and stop using it?

No I didn't think so.

Then your point is?

Really?

I see your point.

We have to wait. For example GFWL is utter shit much worse than Steam.

I actually like the concept in Steam; all games in one place, the community/friends, and easy to buy, download and update games.

Though, the client isn't as fast and optimized as I'd like it to be.

The only thing wrong with steam/valve/3rd party is they aren't considering the extensions that make their games popular when updating i.e Source/meta/Mani etc

Without the pre mentioned their games would suck balls.

After the update yesterday there were probably only 20 working CSS servers in Australia and they were source free. Being one of the first back online my server got full fast. like I said. Without source etc CSS pretty much dies in the butt

Some games is nothing without these addons, but I don't think people should blame Valve for breaking addons that hack. I guess it's very difficult for Valve to make updates compatible with third party addons when MM/SM plugins hack into the engine or do other unsafe tricks to get it working.

Offsets and signatures will change again. It usually work out fine.

I dunno why you are linking Steam and dedicated servers (that should be setup via hldsupdatetool completely Steam-independent).

Yes, it has nothing to do with updates breaking plugins. Steam is just the distribution platform, which I actually think is pretty good.
