I need a recommendation on a Linux Distro.

I have only been running counter strike game clients and dedicated servers on windows since 2001.
Steam will stop running on win7 at the end of the year.

Now is the time to finally switch over to Linux.
What Linux distros are people running for their clients and DS?

Dedicated Servers: Debian - https://www.debian.org/
Personal Gaming: Void Linux - https://voidlinux.org/
Recommended Beginner: Linux Mint - https://linuxmint.com/ or PoP! OS - https://pop.system76.com/
Worth Trying: Drauger OS https://draugeros.org/

Valve develops on a deb based distro, debian/ubuntu would be best for getting setup quickly -

I personally dockerize everything under linux and use alpine (with some god awful lib picking from the steamRE) for a marginal perf improvement

You shouldn't be mixing client and server, keep your stuff separated unless it's specifically for testing locally.

Debian is what you should use for server deployment, it is user friendly but it's really about preference and what you're looking for in a user experience in regards to personal use. I use different distros for personal use because of their purpose and application.

Dockerization is great and you should take a look. There is also leveraging Pterodactyl or the like. After which you can look at using Proxmox instead and deploying that method as well.

I should have said I am installing Both client and DS once I have the hardware for both.
I have always run dedicated hardware for the DS.

Thanks to everyone that mentioned Docker.
A 5 minute into to it and it looks like a great utility.

What would be nice to have is if someone published a Docker container that is all set up for
Metamod and the
CS2 HL 2 SDK and a
few plugins that build "right out of the box" as examples to give us a giant start on MM+CS2 dev.

!
