My gameserver hosting also provides a free FastDL, which can contains only autogenerated content from server's cstrike directory. Today I found out that all maps with weight over 150 mb are not bzipped and hosting support told me, that they done so, because the the downloading or decompressing of such huge (over 150 mb) maps cancause a failure of downloading/decompressing.

So is true or not? I was only able to find info about CS:GO 150mb limit, but nothing for CS:S.

As far as I'm aware, that 150MB thing is a CS:GO specific quirks. The TF2 team exempted map files from their bzipped file restriction list and the CS:S code is based on TF2's code.

I'm not aware that this goes to other games than CS:GO either - however,

Your hosting provider might be considering it an easier step towards "making it work for everyone" to say that all 150MB+ files doesn't get compressed, rather than checking each time for what individual game your server runs.

In other words, they might be cutting corners as more people would open support tickets about a "fastdl that doesn't work", than the number of people that would actually open such tickets about "slow(er) downloads".

After all, problems with slow downloads doesn't necessarily means it at the hosting provider, it could also be at the client's side, or all the other network providers that may be hiding between the server and the client.

Their FastDL has an awesome speed, but I'm running Zombie server and compression matters. One map has size 381mb, but in compressed state its "only" 160mb. Smaller more then twice!

This thread is attempt to get some proofs of hosting or mine position.

One more question: Is it possible that map archive decompression (100+ mb) can cause a decompression failure on client due to performance issues?

As I recall, the reason there's a limit on bzip2 to begin with is because someone figured out how to make a tiny bzip2 file that decompresses to an incredibly large file.

The exception in TF2 and CS:S is only for map files. Any other type if file still has the file size restriction.
