Steam Community bans are bans from using the Steam Community site. A VAC ban is an automatic ban issued by the Valve cheat detection system, while game bans are bans from a single game issued by the game developer.

In SourceBans there is a description in the "Sourcebans.cfg" , which says:

* Without a supplied reason the ban will never be written to the database

Since I am running SB, I wonder, if I let this Plugin take care of automatically banning all those connecting with existing & detected bans in their profile, will this information be also added into the SB database and will there be a "reason" why someone was banned, or will that not work ?

How is that working ?

This plugin simply runs the sm_ban command, and provides a reason of "[VAC Status Checker] <reason for VAC checker status here>".

- A VAC ban would be reason "[VAC Status Checker] VAC bans"
- A Game ban bans would be be "[VAC Status Checker] game bans"
- A Steam community ban would be "[VAC Status Checker] a Steam Community ban"

The reason part ("VAC bans", "game bans", "a Steam Community ban") is translatable, and will usually show up in your client's own language (if the translation exists).

E.g. a banned player whose game is in French, would end up on saying "[VAC Status Checker] Des Bans Vac" on your SourceBans, with the current way the plugin works.
