I'm a skinner whos desperate for answers on something thats almost completely unnoticeable but still is bothering the hell out of me. I am working on a skin port for pyra and on the skin there are small SHADOW LINES. These shadow lines are almost unnoticable but when you turn on a flashlight and zoom in with a awp or aug, you can see them a bit.

- I've also ported a mythra skin that doesnt have the same problem
- from the vmt file i referred to the mythra face texture, shadow lines are still there
- I've renamed mythras face vmt file to replace pyra's face vmt file, and the lines are still there
- I've used mythra's face refrence when compiling, lines still there (the face refrence refers to mythra's materials)
- qc files, physics, and animation files are the same as the ones used for mythra, except referring to different files in the qc file
- compiled with nothing but the face, its still there
- the basic knife model seems to have the same lines as well

Also did a bunch of other stuff, but for some reason, the lines are still there. Any help of any sort is appreciated!

These look like UV mapping artifacts due to bad alpha blending + mip mapping.

I've been doing the same thing to both skins. I've also done more testing for the past day, but what I've gotten it down to. Its just really weird shit.

I compiled the pyra skin where it refers to the materials in the mythra materials folder. Then I made a copy of the pyra vmt files and put it in the mythra folder. The vmts still refer to the vtfs in the pyra materials folder. Shadow lines are gone.

I compiled the pyra skin where it refers to the materials in the pyra materials folder. And of course the pyra vmt files still refer to the pyra vtf files in the pyra folder. Shadow lines are now there.

Not sure it can be alpha blending, because face and body textures are in dxt1 format, so they shouldnt have any alpha layer. Then again I'm not that much of a pro on that stuff.

I guess in the end of it all, I found a workaround for it, but I'm still wondering what causes this. Blessed folder? or maybe cursed folder? lol
