My CS:1.6 server has around 850 FPS (while empty)

But if i pay an aditional fee to my server provider, it can run up to 8000 FPS !!

My question is, is it worth? What will change? Will i notice any difference? Is 850 FPS enough?

This is what NFO says:

Quote:
With a higher tickrate (which is similar to the server-side FPS), more server-side world calculations are performed, and this can lead to a smoother gameplay experience for players. However, the trade-off is that the server uses more CPU and consumes more bandwidth. This makes it more expensive to host higher-tickrate servers.
Mostly, any answer to it being "worth it" or "how much improvement will there be" will basically be subjective.

This game is ancient. A tickrate of 100 is enough, IMO.

Any ticrate above 1000 throws off the bullet registration. I wouldn't recommend anything over 1000 fps.

I speak from experience. You want to test this theory? Use pingboost 3.

That's a situation particular to you. Not much I can suggest in that case.

You should set it to "128" if you want it to run at 100FPS. (source: http://www.svencoop.com/manual/server-basic.html#config) It's not really a good idea to boost it further since the clients only get a maximum of 100FPS from the server (cl_updaterate clamps at 102).

The guide is for Sven Co-op but the engine is the same for all games. (this part was available for 4.8, back when SC was a HL mod)
