Hi, I have the some pc that got left and haven't used since after I changed my pc rig. (2 weeks ago)

I wonder that if I want to use it as Dedicated server to open CS:S ZE server with 64 players slot with Ubuntu (Linux), is it worth or not?
I plan to run both CS:S server and fastDL on this same machine. what you guys thinking?

Spec
CPU: Intel Core i7-3770
Ram: 16 GB
SSD: 480 GB (SATA)

A i7-3770 won't give you the greatest performance but should be fine for a CS:S and FastDL server.

A well configured Linux OS with a good custom kernel self-recompiled or use XanMod or liquorx Kernel (google for them) with ~500 or higher sys _ticrate will give you verry good performance, but at mostly you need good bandwidith upload, it's really what counts the most

I used to have a CSS server back in the days, on a laptop i5, 12 gb ram with verry well configured Debian 7 (Jessy) same FastDL trought NGINX , also 3 other HLDS server's worked verry well, and most of them full at evening, and main CPU didn't go higher usage than 60% percent, because if upload speed is good CPU will not spike high in problems and also you woun't have problems with client taking all bandwidith on downloading files, also you need good server rates in server.cfg you should search for drekrates on google to calculate what rates ar best for your server,

He is talking about a SRCDS based server not HLDS and please don't limit your rates unless you have too... and if you have to please read THIS rather than using some perhaps outdated calculator.

Also a more stable solution

I did read the entire post, unlikes other users on here, and I was just pointing out that this part is perhaps a bit misleading for the topic creator.

You don't necessarily need ECC memory for a game server machine but you should learn about it yourself and decide.
