Well I use a Windows Computer but there are 2 versions in that list.

I am looking at the NFO Virtual Dedicated Servers. I want to know what is best to get for a BOX.

This is the one I can probably afford
Code:
Two core: Good for 2-6 game servers or several large sites.
Two full, dedicated HT CPU cores (Nehalem or better)
2048 MB of RAM
200 GB of RAID-protected storage
2000 GB of InterNAP bandwidth transfer
You think you can give me your opinion on that BOX?

If you are most proficient in Windows, I'd suggest getting Windows (GoldSrc and Source are optimized for Windows). Unless you really want to learn and fumble through Linux.

I have to say that Windows would be the good choice in this matter, but I find that Linux is much more stable when it comes to hosting game servers. The problem is that not many people know how to use the Linux OS, so they tend to stay away from it. If you want to explore Linux then I highly recommend using either Debian or CentOS, if not then go with Windows Server.

Keep in mind that with a dedicated machine, you're also responsible for the OS and its updates. And manually setting up hldsupdatetool on it.

If you don't know Linux, stick with Windows... I also believe Windows Server 2008 R2 is recommended over Server 2003, but I don't know the specifics of that.

I'm a bit disturbed at it not mentioning if 2008 is x64 or not, though.

We run all of our game servers off of a windows 7 machine and it does perfectly fine. And super easy to manage its hosted off site and a members house that has fiber net. And we use real vnc to manage it

Server 2008 R2 is the server version of Windows 7 (2008 non-R2 is the server version of Vista)
