Can I have multiple servers in one VPS (linux) ? (for another MOD)

Don't use that tutorial, they tell you to download an unofficial version of the installer.


Yes you can have multiple servers on the same machine, just install them into different directories.

It's best to use hldsupdatetools, they're official and always up-to-date.

Tutorial:

1. mkdir server
2. cd server
3. wget http://www.steampowered.com/download/hldsupdatetool.bin
4. chmod a+x hldsupdatetool.bin
5. ./hldsupdatetool.bin
6. ./steam
7. ./steam -command update -game cstrike -dir .
8. ./steam -command update -game cstrike -dir .

The number 8 step is just for checking up the files that got dowloaded in the number 7 step.

Might be worth noting that in my experience VPS's with multiple servers turned out to be a horrible lag disaster. Maybe it's just the specs for the one I was using, but make sure you have enough ram/cpu to run all of those instances. You can specify in the startup different ports for the different servers if you want them all running at once (I think it's 27015-27020 that are most commonly used).

I don't recommend using VPS for running more than two servers, because VPS is a Virtual Private Server. The word Virtual explains it all. As jwright8 said, multiple servers on VPS can cause lag disaster. Sometimes it will work OK but in most cases VPS Host machine is overloaded with other clients and your VPS can't get served on time so CPU is busy and servers can't work normally, because Host System is serving other clients, your players have higher ping.

In most cases even weaker Dedicated server can work better than stronger VPS.

You must only have dealt with OpenVZ VPS then. Try a Xen VPS, they aren't overloaded and they have dedicated resources.

I've tried XEN too there is slight performance increase, but still real hardware (dedicated server) is the best solution.
