sorry for reviving this thread, i got a problem about loss and choke with my hlds. i use hlds rate calculator by dreek. but my server got loss too and sometime it lag like hell. here my pc spec:
processor -- intel xeon 2.83ghz
ram -- 512mb
upload speed -- 6.48mbps

and rate calculated by dreek's hlds rate calculator:
sv_minrate 0
sv_maxrate 37500
sv_minupdaterate 4
sv_maxupdaterate 125

i'm running 20slots cs1.6 server. can someone give me the best setting according to my pc spec.

PHP Code:
sv_minrate 0
sv_maxrate 37500
sv_minupdaterate 4
sv_maxupdaterate 125
I don't have much experience with HLDS, but I can tell you that your rates are messed up. sv_maxrate cannot exceed 30000, sv_maxupdaterate cannot exceed 100.

Also regarding your system specs, the processor is fine, but I think the RAM may be a bottle neck. Depending on what other processes you run, the reason for choke and loss may be due to the lack of available memory. As with your internet connection, it's on the edge, I would suggest you increase if you can to avoid any unnecessay lag.

Loss is usually related to your ISP, not to your server rates.

If you're getting choke, it's probably because your client rates are set higher than the rates of the server you're connecting to, or because your rates are set too high based on your ISP.

Make sure that your rates aren't a lot higher than the server's rates. If they are, you'll be trying to send a lot more data than the server can receive, which will cause choke.

If your rates are in sync with the server's, then your rates are probably too high for what your internet connection or your computer can handle. Again, try lowering them and see if that helps.

Are those your server specs? I'd lower the rates a lot. My home server has better hardware than that, and I had to put my maxrate at 8500 and maxupdaterate at 30 to keep gameplay consistent for all the different players. Otherwise, you're going to have just a couple of people stealing all the bandwidth and the other 16 players will lag like crap.
