Well recently my ISP offered a 1Mbp upload speed, and I thought id go for the offer since it was pretty cheap to upgrade.

So anyways, i did a speed test and got:

Now i was confused on "bit" and "byte". Is the test telling me i have "7769 kilo BITS a second" ? Same with the upload.

Why i'm asking this is because i'm hoping to be able to run a HL server, and have been searching how much bandwidth is a single person/slot on the server.
Does anyone know if this speed is capable of a minimum of 8 players?

More than Capable. 1MB/s up is plenty to run an 8 man server...way over an 8 man server in fact.

Your u/d speed basically comes out to

7.7 MB/s Down | 1.0 MB/s Up

For comparison (with a friend of mine on XBL and hogging some bandwidth):

problem might lie in network issues with your cable provider. They might not offer enough bandwidth for you to have a gameserver, which i doubt, but if you're going to be hosting like a 18 man server i really dont know.

i have 2mbps upload and 5mbps download (business class) and TWC still sucks, the bandwidth is horrible so i only use it cuz its free for me =D

Well here's the other thing... I don't think my speeds are 'real-time'... If i'm saying that correctly.

I'm getting my 909kbps upload speed confused with my real speed of 111 KB/Sec speed. Is this still a sufficient speed ?

Yeah, should be fine...

I know there is a site out there that has the per client upload bandwidth value. I'll see if I can dig it up.

While we're on the subject, how much upload speed would be good to run a 10 slot server averaging from 40-80 ping on the east coast?

enough to support 16 to 18 players.

Im telling this cos I've had 60 kbs real upload speed and I had 12 slots 0 lag just for Venezuela for months. Now you have to tweak your computer to do the thing. Booster and high process priority.

I hope your kidding? Don't take this offensively, but I doubt that measurement is too accurate.

Swear to God it's works perfect. Dont believe take a look at game-monitor in Venezuela and you will see most of the servers have 12 slots and they have the same connection I did.
An average player consumes about 5 to 6 kbs but you have to have sv_downloadurl if you dont then you will see lag.
