Usually, I load the new files on the server via FTP, then refresh the plugins list with HLSW, then join the server, change the map, and when the new map loads everything is fine. But for this extension, I had reset the Linux server several times and changed the map each time but it wasn't working. On the last try it worked. That's really strange. Never had to do it that many times on the Windows server. But at least it's working.

Well it can be confusing if you've never set it up before. And it can be even more confusing that there are multiple plugins with the same or similar functions. And sometimes their names are not so obvious (such as bebop).

You have MetaMod installed in the addons folder, right?

You have the metamod.vdf for Left 4 Dead installed in the addons folder, right?

You have SourceMod installed in the addons folder, right?


If not, get all of those and you should have this layout:

left4dead\left4dead\addons\sourcemod
left4dead\left4dead\addons\metamod.vdf
From there, you need one extension (either L4DToolz or Left4Downtown). L4DToolz goes in in the addons and metamod folders like this:

Or if you choose Left4Downtown, it goes in the sourcemod extension and gamedata folders, like this:

And then, you need one plugin to allow 5 or more player coop. There's a lot of those, I suggest trying bebop.


And lastly, depending on which you choose, you'll need to add some settings to your server config file, such as:

sv_maxplayers 8
sv_removehumanlimit 1
sv_force_unreserved 1
sv_visiblemaxplayers 8

That should be all unless I missed something (it's late and I'm tired :p)

Ok. I am ready to scream now.

I am using Linux

I have tried every version of Toolz possible along with bebop and i still cannot get the Server to show 16 players in the Steam Group Server list. It just shows 4 unless i use left for downtown patched slots in which it displays 8.

Does anyone have a fix for this ?

Works fine on Windows just not on linux ? Someone must have the .so or gamedata that resolves this issue ?

Looks like you have the same headache I had 2 months ago. Read post 1067. I have a L4D1 linux server and used the plugin version that Visual77 linked to and it works fine. I have mine set to 8, it shows 8, and 8 can join.

Hi all,

I have just a problem with my L4D1 - Server, Linux - based. I didnt find any L4DToolz that works. Also when i type, on HLSW, meta list: "ERROR" or "NOFILE" I am running metamod and the newest sourcemod. Can please anyone help me?

Is there a version of the plugin that shows more than 4 players when you hold the TAB key to display the "showscores" screen? I know coop normally only shows 4, but what about adding the additional 4 under that that get used for VS and make that useable in coop mode to show the name/health/ping of 4 more players? Or at least name/ping since VS doesn't show the infected health. Is there any plugin at all that does this?

I seem to be going through what a few others here experience on linux server. Everything seems to be installed correctly and running but will not display increased slots in group.

I have tried both 10rc3 version and 1.0.0.9f.

Have spent a half the day reading, testing etc. Anyone have any suggestions? New to running l4d2 server but run 3 tf2 servers.

And OMG why does it take so long for server to show up on steam group list when you restart......

Oh and in HLSW it does show 18 slots as in 0/18

Also the front page lists latest version as 1.0.0.10RC3 when it actually displays [02] L4DToolZ (1.0.0.10RC2) by Ivailosp. Not a big deal...just fyi.

You have to use 1.0.010RC3 (Yes, called RC2 on linux) and overwrite the gamedata in /addons/l4dtoolz/gamedata
with the up to date game data from here: http://forums.alliedmods.net/showpos...&postcount=906

It's not very hard if you do it right. Stop your server, put the files on, overwrite that gamedata file, reboot your server. Because 1.0.9f has hard coded game data and was compiled
with old offsets, it's never gonna work on linux.

I have quad check that using updated gamedata file...I didn't mention that it is hard did I? I did mention that I followed all steps and everything loading and the correct slots display in HLSW, gametracker (new) and even when play coop or versus BOTS will spawn up to the the increased slots BUT it still only displays 4 or 8 slots in game and will only allow a max of 4 or 8 humans to join. I have checked the lobby reservation well.

Try reading the whole post and UNDERSTAND what the problem is before you start spewing unhelpful and repetitive information...thanks visual77
If you can't get 20 ppl in your server and your server reports to have 8 slots or less in game, then that means that your game data is outdated, so back of with the atitude because you're the only one here who can't get this working so obviosly you're doing something wrong.

In your server console I want you to type sm_cvar sv_maxplayers 20, then sm_cvar sv_removehumanlimit 1, then sm_cvar sv_force_unreserved 1 and paste me the output.
Do you get any form of init erorr in the output while doing that?
