Hello guys !

About one week ago i played on an arena server with 32 players 128 tickrate. At full server 32/32 they have stable var, i attach a picture. From what I found out, server is runing on linux with a 7700k oc at 5 Ghz.

My machine is runing 9900k oc at 5 Ghz and on my arena server at ~28 players I do not have a stable var like them. I am runing on ubuntu 19.10 linux with liquorix kernel.

From what i know, debian is the best.. but what about kernel ?

I want to know from your experience, what is the best combination of linux distribution and kernel for srdcs, to run around or over 32 players at 128 tickrate with the most stable var.

Thanks !

Debian is better then ubuntu in low var values.

I read in some foruns that XanMod kernel it's very good.

I tested with my Debian and saw no difference. Maybe because my server is only competitive with 10 players. But I think you should try it out!

What really made a difference in my servers was tuned with low latency profile!!

Best is super comparative, what may be good for one server may not result the same for others.

For future support I would suggest switching to Debian, since Ubuntu is somewhat "losing support". Bleeding edge wise, you'll have the best success and most support from Debian.

I and others, as mentioned, have had great success with XanMod and other customer kernels. Of course, you will want to set your governor to performance to get baseline necessary performance out of your server. Using a tool such as tuned will help with that.

All my builds run a kernel whether customer, XanMod, or something else and are all using Debian (except a few on RHEL). They have provided the best results, ranging from i7-4790k to i9-9900k. With a variance as low as 0.001 server variance. You can see from this thread how a custom kernel can make a big difference running tuned and such. - https://forums.alliedmods.net/showpo...2&postcount=47 check out the whole thread for more information on the matter.

My test was in reference to this post: https://forums.alliedmods.net/showpo...5&postcount=38

His GitHub is here: https://github.com/MikkelDK/GameServerKernel

You can also try out those other kernels as well, such as XanMod and others.

I am asking, maybe you know something.

I hold a small tournament and some people told me that the bullet gets better to the target on faceit.
Faceit server has a special configuration of the sistem for 10 players servers ?

For my part i use Debian 10 on my ryzen 7 server due to the low var, but also CentOS 8 with default kernel + tuned has good performances no lag spikes

Are u runing public server with more than 24 players ?

Before ubuntu 19.10 i was using ubuntu 18.04 with default kernel, just on performance without tuned. I was having at 26 players on 128 tickrate with var from 0.023 to 0.035, 42-46% cpu core consumption. After i changed to ubuntu 19.10 problems appeard.
