Sounds like the update tool is running everytime you start the server. You could try changing the file to not have write permissions, but that will stop the next update from installing correctly.

lots of 3rd party (or commercial) hosters automatically run an update either from their local server images or straight from valve each time the server restarts.

If you are using a 3rd party, your only option is to ask them to change their system - or try and block their update by setting the file to "read only" - but that method could prevent you from getting any future updates.

The way i do it is to copy the gameinfo.txt (along with a few other files that get overwritten) at the end of my update script... That way each time i update a server the changed/updated files get written back into the mod.

meta mod will not load unless you have a patched gameinfo.txt...
it is the only way to load it.
You must also restart the server after you patch it....

if your host is overwriting it each time you restart the server - you cannot load meta mod.

Couldn't he just load the plugin from a config file each time? It's a crude way to do it, but it's still possible.

Yeah, I know. You can load server plugins (ie metamod) using console.

plugin_load addons/metamod/bin/server.dll

Should do it just fine.

You can't load Metamod that way.
