fps banana _model viewer there are several tools for model viewing.

With milkshape 3D (free trial version available) you can edit the models...there are also good tutorials on the milkshape site ;)

If you want to just re-skin you can kill two birds with one stone by using Jed's HLMV, which allows you to export/import textures to a .mdl
